Now if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me. And you will be my kingdom of priests, my holy nation.’ This is the message you must give to the people of Israel.”(NLT)
Under the old covenant, man was expected to fulfil his own part of the covenant before God fulfils his part. It was a system powered by the works of man and any system that is dependent on man’s ability is bound to fail.
1 Samuel 2:9
“For by strength no man shall prevail. (NKJV)
God said to Israel ‘if you do your part, you will be my special people, my kingdom of priests, and my holy nation’. Yet the people kept failing in their part.
All glory to him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by shedding his blood for us. He has made us a Kingdom of priests for God his Father. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen. (NLT)
Under the new covenant, all conditions for acceptance, blessings, forgiveness and righteousness were fulfilled by Jesus on the cross. All who believe in Jesus and have received him as lord have become beneficiaries of the new covenant. This covenant is not powered by the works of man but by the finished work of Jesus Christ.
Now we are righteous; we have become God’s special people; we’ve been made a kingdom of priest; not because of what we did but because of God’s unfailing love and the shed blood of Jesus.
